I know you might be busy right now but I wanted you to know that this isn't your fault. I don't care if it was your invention. Zodiac should be way more upfront with everyone about everything that's going on. If they were, you would never have felt the need to do what you did.

I know we don't know each other that well. But from what I've read, it seems to me like all you wanted to do was help people get back to their homes. Because Zodiac isn't doing a damn thing about that, or if they are they're not being transparent enough about it.

Anyway. I had to get that off my chest. Please don't beat yourself up too much. And if you need any help with what they're making you do, or anything at all, please feel free to ask me, or ask anyone? Just reach out. You deserve that.

Heeeey Varian! I'm sure you're busy cleaning up your whole dinosaur mess so I won't keep too much of your time.

I just thought I should point out that those coordinates you said you had for your world? Yeah, those are useless. Coordinates are completely relative to the place you designate as the point of origin. So the coordinates you had would only be useful on the world you got them from. In order to reach Corona from here, you'd need to recalculate everything based on this world being your point of origin. And of course, you'd have to consider things such as orbital rotation, spirit realm movements, weather conditions, time and day- and all sorts of other things!

Anyway, just thought you'd like to hear some constructive criticism now that everything's blown up in your face. I probably would've mentioned something before if you had only bothered to listen to me when I asked you to keep it down, but que sera sera!

There's a knock at Varian's door sometime in the evening, late in the month. Claude stands on the other side, a small stack of notebooks tucked under his arm, each noticeably thicker than their original widths with sheets of loose paper stuffed between the pages. Claude's own meticulously neat handwriting is visible on the covers and a few of the sheets threatening to fall out.

"Hey Varian," he calls, through the door. "You there? I've got something I think you might appreciate."

[Varian will receive a delivery in the form of a very heavy, wrapped box. It's got a cute bow and the wrapping paper is chemistry-themed. The only indication of who it might be from is a hand drawn sun next to 'Secret Santa.'

Inside the box is books! There's a book that covers the history of medical science in general, a college textbook on chemistry, a history of technology book, a book on the history and evolution of ethics in science, and a book titled "1000 Science Puns."]

[Fern is well aware of how stress Varian has been lately.

Well. Not so much lately....

There was the disaster with the gates and dinosaurs, then exploding their apartment and getting in deep with Zodiac. The weird fallout from getting peach guts all over them hasn't helped, and now all those Black Order jerks showing up have been making things worse. Fern can tell. Varian isn't exactly good at hiding his emotions when they're together.

Which is why, one day, he's sending this incredibly dumb text.]

zodiac is acting really strange and we're worried they might do something to the building people are living in. there's no evidence of that but they're just acting really off and i feel like the further away you are from their influence the better

do you... want to stay with me until we know what's going on?

i have an extra room as long as you don't mind sharing with fern. there's always the daybed too, you'll just have to work that out between you two

i have a couple house rules i'll lay down if you take me up on this but nothing too oppressive i promise

[On the morning of Varian's birthday, there is a suspiciously staff-like shape wrapped in shiny gold and teal wrapping paper leaning against the dining table. Inside the wrap is a quarterstaff. There's also a card next to the cake on the table, and it reads in crude handwriting:]

I know you're not the fighting type, but as they say: speak softly, and carry a big stick.
The smith told me it's enchanted to help focus the power of earth. Also to never break it in half. Not sure what that's about.
I can give you some basic lessons outside whenever you feel up to it.

[Soooo there's been a whole heck of a lot going on for the last couple of weeks, but Fern isn't about to let that stop him from trying to do something nice for his boyfriend's birthday. Varian could really use it, even if it's a temporary distraction from Zodiac and all the guilt that's been weighing on him. He knows from personal experience how hard that is.

He's commandeered Amal's kitchen and has been doing his damnedest, and after a couple of hours he's knocking on his and Varian's bedroom door before poking his head in.]

Heyyyy V, you busy?

[Amal knocks on Varian's door once again. It's late afternoon, and there's some time before dinner needs to be arranged, so...]

Varian~ [Don't mind the singsong voice, he's a little nervous and trying to hide it.] You busy? I need your help with something outside.

[Really he needs a convenient excuse to get Varian and himself some privacy for an important discussion, but Varian doesn't need to know that.]

[Rose, of course, knew of Varian’s existence. But she’d never actually met the boy. Something about introducing herself to Amal’s son felt like it would be crossing a line—-she wasn’t sure what line, but still.]

[Of course, things change and now she’s crashing on their couch. She doesn’t know when she’s going to be able to go home, or even if she’s going to be comfortable living on her own again. With her presence on the couch being extremely obvious, she figures it’s time to bite the bullet.]

[After all, considering that she is occupying their living room, the very least she could do is say hello, right? She finds Varian, and gives him a smile. This is what she can manage right now.]

You’re Varian, right? I thought I’d come introduce myself.

[What's up, it's the most That Fucking Guy ever to exist. At least he's not out of his mind right now.

Hello. This is Zhongli, of the Black Order. Are you accepting commissions at the moment?

A little bird told me that there was going to be a big fight next month. I've been working overtime making weapons that people can use for this if they need them, but seeing as it's supposedly a dragon, we might need even more than that.

And this is unrelated to whatever the prophecy is talking about.

I think we'll need something that's more durable. Tanky. But I haven't built one in this life and I'm not sure I can do it myself.

So I'm asking you. How good are you with mechanical armor?

[On Varian's birthday, there will be a delivery left at his door. The delivery contains a carefully decorated raccoon themed cake, portioned out bags of treats for Varian's raccoon and his pokemon, and an extremely durable coffee travel mug.

There is no name attached to the gift, per usual, but Varian can probably guess who it was.]

[He’s staring at the prophecy post right now and thinking about how his magic ice bombs might not be enough for whatever’s coming.]

Varian. How are you doing?

I will need your help a little more from now on. If you want nothing to do with my 'projects', this is your last chance to back out.

[After talking with Varian, the rest of the day was a matter of finding ways to fill his day so he wouldn't think too much about the upcoming dinner. He helped out in the fortress's kitchen, worked on homework, tended to the plants, and after all his chores were done- he occupies himself with a video game.

Was he nervous? A little bit. He certainly paused his game a lot more than usual to tidy up his place, and waffle over what he should order for dinner.

Eventually, he settles on burgers. Once he finally gets a text from Varian that he was finishing up with studying, he puts in an order for burgers, fries, drinks, and some custard. It's easy to pick it up, thanks to his teleportation power. Now the custard sits in his mini-fridge while the burgers sit on his dining table.

... Boy, he hopes this goes well. He sits there, fiddling with his phone as he waits for Varian]

[Coming to rest in Hyrule had been a fantastic idea, truth be told. Varian knew it was a long way to recovery - he's been in therapy long enough now to know there's no such thing as an immediate cure. This will take time, and even then, the scars will likely remain for good. But being here with Jun and being able to just switch off for a bit has done wonders. He doesn't feel like he's going to fall apart at a moment's notice anymore, and that has to mean something.

The full moon day comes, as it always will. Varian knew it would, and he knew he and Jun would just have to deal with it. He's been a werewolf for a long time now, he's got a patter to the whole process. When he's in the city, he just takes himself off to the state park to be clear of people, let his wolfy self do whatever it wants during the night (he never remembers everything with crystal clarity) and then come home once the sun is up and he's back to himself. He figures he can just do the same here- they're already in the wilderness, they can just make sure they're clear of the village and it'll be fine.

But this isn't like normal. Not even slightly. Because he's felt hot and heavy all day long. The wolf doesn't normally make itself so known until dusk hits. But all day he's been... distracted. Whenever he's sat to try and work on the classwork Jun thoughtfully brought him, his mind has wandered, trying to locate his boyfriend. Wanting to be near him, to breathe in his scent and be close. He figured this was probably just more clinginess after the Event Horizon at first, seeking out comfort from a legitimate trauma.

But the day pulled on and on, and the distractions stayed around for longer and longer. As the day gets closer to night, he's given up his classwork completely, instead starting to pace around the room they've got themselves in the inn. He's never felt the wolf pull so much before. Is it because he's in the spirit realm? He doesn't know, but he's feeling more and more desperate to do something with the energy coiling around inside him. To focus on something other than breathing in his partner's smell all day long.

He glances at the window, then over at Jun- feeling something tug at the back of his head, wanting to be nearer to him than this.]

We- we should probably get moving soon. I wanna be clear of the village before nightfall. I don't think I'd actually hurt anyone, but I don't wanna take my chances, you know? [He takes another deep breath, smelling Jun on the air, his senses getting stronger- always a sign the change is coming closer.] I'm feeling... kinda antsy.
