I'm working with the Black Order as their weaponsmith, so I had a forge built out in Hyrule. There's an abundance of space and materials and it's outside of city limits.
Here is the problem. Though I can work traditionally, I prefer crafting with a gas forge for consistency and efficiency. I also need electricity for other tools if I want to finish anything this century. I intend to learn how to forge and repair magical weapons and it will be much faster if the forge is modernized.
You'll be tasked with installing gas and electricity. In return, I'll let you have access to everything in my forge, and I can show you how to use various equipment if you aren't familiar with them already.
You'll be paid well.

Oh wow!! Sure I can help with that. I've helped get electricity to a friend's cottage out in the sticks. I can definitely build a generator for the electricity and figure out how to get some gas to you- it might mean adapting to the spirit realm itself, seen as it's inside rather than outside of it. But it's a challenge I'm happy to take on!
And thanks! That sounds like a fair trade. Do you have a time I can come out and scope out the area? See what I'm working with.
[It says a lot for this kid's personal development that he's accepting payment instead of insisting on doing it for free out of some mad desire to deserve existing. Growth!]

Sweet.]
Great. I wasn't looking forward to doing everything by myself, even if that's how it's always been.
Anytime after 5 would be best unless it's the weekend. I have a day job that I unfortunately can't quit just to chase after my medieval aspirations.

Nah, we're all in this together, right? Makes sense to help each other out when we can.
That's fine, I can drop by then. I've got school starting again anyway so the evenings work better for me.

... I suppose we are.
[He's... ... reminded of something. Someone...
(Maybe himself?)]
If you need to, you can bring your homework. I don't mind helping you through it so you can work. I have an engineering degree, not that they're worth much these days.

Oh man, yes please!!! That'd be really helpful thanks!!
...
Wait, why isn't it worth much? Isn't that what people want? Degrees?
no subject
Sure.
Something to do with privatized college and how stupid the hiring process is. I managed an entry level position, but who knows how long it will take me to make what I'm worth.

It is stupid.
If engineers weren't in high demand right now, I would be unemployed, I'm sure.

Sometimes I really, really don't understand the future. I was the Royal Engineer back home. Like, literally working for the whole kingdom and if someone else could do what I could, I'd take their help in a second. It's so much work!!

Royal Engineer? I can't say my job is all that prestigious... I design infrastructure for my day job. It sounds like you got a lot of hands on experience where you're from.
My real passion is crafting, but there isn't much demand for blacksmiths in the twenty first century.

[He's still got a few months left! Maybe he can just avoid it forever, he doesn't want this.]
Yeah! I built a running hot water system for the whole Kingdom. I'd just finished up on that before I got dragged into this world. But yeah! I had plenty of hands-on experience. It was pretty much just me and anyone I could get to help...lift stuff.
GOD RIGHT!! [No this is IMPORTANT to him!!] What happened? In my time you couldn't go to a single town without there being a blacksmith or a baker or a cobbler or anything. And they could make you what you wanted, exactly how you wanted it. Now that's all gone and it's like the world gave up artistry and quality for convenience.

You built a running water system-- with heat-- for an entire kingdom? [Ambitious doesn't even begin to cover it.] Wow. You really ought to consider the construction side of engineering if you decide to go to school. It has long hours, but it's way more hands-on than just design.
[Being an adult sucks, but he knows talent when he sees it.]
What happened? Guns and more powerful explosives happened. War became something fought by people in offices behind screens. You're not wrong when you say it's about convenience. Everything is mass-produced and no one wants to wait for anything.
All the more reason to keep doing what we do. Art can't be allowed to die.

Sure. I'd started it when I was fourteen. But I finally figured it out when I was sixteen. [Such a LONG period of time, between 14 and 16, wow. ] Oh wow, I didn't realise there were specialisations! I'd definitely prefer something more hands-on!!
Oh. I guess that makes sense. It still sucks, though.
I agree. I think that when people are trying to destroy it, that's when it's needed most.
