[Maybe they're in cahoots with Zodiac? Still, the idea of going to the beach with Fern is...pleasant. It makes a fluttering happen in his stomach. ]

I think that's more a you thing than a me thing, but sure. I guess I need to get a better practice with my powers anyway. Let's do it.

I think that's a little hopeful. I have a feeling I'm gonna keep doing really badly at it for a while.

The small experience I had with sports before school closed for the summer taught me I'm REALLY bad at sports.

Pretty sure I'm bad at magic too, though.

I don't know, sports seems to be a lot. I really hated that one where people just throw balls at you? Like, what's the point of that?

I don't want to be better at magic, that's more of a necessity thing. I need to be able to control my powers, like it or not.

dodgeball? hey c'mon that's a good way to improve your reflexes!
just pretend a big stone golem is flinging rocks at you instead of some donkus in gym shorts throwing balls

why not? magic is cool when it doesn't suck

Or it's a good way to get hit in the face by a fast-moving ball. I don't think the rock analogy really works considering the fact my reflexes aren't great.

[If he was the one THROWING the ball, he'd do a lot better- he's got one heck of an aim. But he has to win the game first to get there, so.]

It's dangerous and unpredictable. I prefer science. Science follows rules and patterns. You can make predictions with science. You can't with magic, magic just does what it wants.

not with dodgeballs but with something lighter
work your way up

[It would be fun! Extra fun, since it'd be helping Varian.]

can't science be dangerous and unpredictable sometimes too? that Zelos guy complains about those explosions all the time

[Varian would honestly rather drink acid than practice at sports, but the idea of practising with Fern feels...different. Almost like it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. ]

I guess that wouldn't be so bad. If we worked our way up.

I mean sometimes, but not as bad as magic. And that guy just doesn't like loud noises, he's just grumpy.

So you have like. Wizards of various elements back home? Does that mean there are ice people back in your world who were made by wizards? Are there other grass people?

wizards usually have some kind of specific magic they do
there are other grass people but they weren't made by wizards like me
they're just regular people
Ice King's made living stuff using his powers
like living snowmen and junk
and one time i used one of his ice bolts to help bring my younger brother to life
