Instead... Varian hits him with that. The full charm and reassurances. Being told that he's worth protecting. He stares at Varian like a deer in the headlights, stunned, and there's a definite blush on his face. He is charmed.]
Oh. You bastard.
[JUN. JUN PLEASE]
no subject
Excuse me???
[Wow!! WOW?? This is what he gets for sincerity?! W O W!]
no subject
What?! Do you not realize just how charming that sounded right now?! "You're worth protecting", "I wanna be here for you"--
[Yeah that blush is very clear]
Y-You're supposed to be making a perimeter for me to follow, not sweeping me off my feet!
no subject
[But now he's bushing too, seen as Jun has pointed out something that could have been seen from space, but they've started yelling about it now, so they might as well carry on!]
Well, sooooorry!! I ran out of perimeters and felt that was important to say!
no subject
[He makes a noise of frustration, as if he realizes how much they are yelling. It's not like he wanted to start a fight, he was just caught off guard and reacted.
So he'll fall silently, biting on his burger and chewing on it as if that's to help work the feelings off.
Finally he'll swallow, speaking in a lower volume.]
... It was very sweet.
no subject
When he speaks again, Varian relents, sitting back a little on his chair.]
...Oh. Well, good. Because I really did mean it. [ There's a pause.] Um. Did you have any more? ...Parimters, I mean.
no subject
[He shakes his head, reaching for his own drink.]
Nothing I can think of. I'm pretty sure I covered everything I thought about.
no subject
Okay, that's good. I mean, if either of us ever think of something else, it's not like we can't bring it to the table again, right?
[Healthy communication and all that. Even if it sometimes involves yelling, but that's just a side effect of being them really. He takes another sip of his drink.]
So. What's the plan for the rest of the evening now we've got our soul-crushing agonies and solid relationship agreements out of the way?
no subject
That's true. No need to take care of everything at once.
[He'll finish off his own fries now, putting the carton back in the bag so it's easier to throw it away later]
Hmm... that's a good question. I was thinking maybe some video game? Er- a co-op one, not versus.
no subject
[A teasing smirk crosses his face as he gets up, wandering off towards the couch.]
Are you still sore about that time I beat you at Mario Kart?
no subject
Nah, I don't care about that.
Just figured it'd ruin the mood of the date if you lost your cool over losing.
no subject
Wow. Wow. I happen to be a gracious loser, thank you.
[He's not. He knows it. Jun knows it. They both know it. It's clear Varian isn't taking his "gracious loser" statement seriously at all- a grin crossing his face.]
Honestly, you throw a controller one time, and you're marred for life.
no subject
[He'll plop down next to him, grabbing the joycons and handing Varian one]
That's because controllers are expensive! Speaking of, make sure you play with the wrist strap on.
[So it's much harder to throw]
no subject
[Never let him do this. Never. That's how you end up with a joycon that shoots actual lasers, and no one needs that in their lives. Varian makes a pointed display of raising his arm up, and then slowly attaching the wrist strap. For good measure, he waves his hand a little, now joycon attached.
He glances over at Jun, swallowing down a trickle of nerves before shifting to sit a little closer to him, enjoying the flutter in his chest as he does so.]
So, what's the game?
no subject
[That means no. No he does not want lasers shooting out of his joycons.
Jun loads up the game. He'll glance over at Varian to make sure the joycon is on safely. He does notice Varian shifting closer, and gives a little smile at it]
Snipperclips. Basically we work together to solve puzzles.
no subject
He makes a soft noise of amusement as the little animated joycons and their weird fucking faces.]
Okay, that's both adorable and weirdly creepy at the same time.
[And you know, it IS pretty adorable. And tricksy. There will definitely be a point where Varian's got his head tilted at a fifty-degree angle, squinting at the screen.]
Okay, so I think we need to make a little hook to pull the lever out?
no subject
[At least the gaming is going better than the first time they tried playing together. He makes a thoughtful noise at his assessment]
Yeah... that might work. Hold still, I'll cut you up into one.
no subject
[He... definitely didn't mean that to just come out like that, and a faint blush crosses his cheeks as soon as he realises that slipped out. He clears this throat, focusing on the game.]
I mean. Yup. Holding still. Go for it.
no subject
I wouldn't call you creepy.
[With Varian holding still, he'll cut his character into a hook-like shape that he thinks might work. It's not perfect, but it'll do.
As soon as he's done with that though-]
Cute though, yes.
no subject
[He's trying to manoeuvrer the now little hook character up towards the aforementioned lever when Jun drops that little nugget on him. He at least manages to keep it together this time, though he's blushing up a storm.]
Well... thanks. That's- thanks.
[He's dealt with his self-loathing enough that he will allow a compliment - progress!
Jun may recall on the mountain that Varian had told him that if Varian meant to be charming, it would be awkward and science-pun based. Jun was pre-warned about this. A grin crosses Varian's face as he turns to face Jun, raising his eyebrows slowly
He never did figure out how to do Eugene's smoulder properly, but he'll always give it a good college try.]
Likewise. I mean, are you made of copper and tellurium? Because you're CuTe
no subject
Then Varian drops that. There's a long pause, as if Jun has to process what the fuck just happened.
And then, he bursts into laughter]
no subject
He laughs himself, rubbing the back of his head.]
To be fair, you were warned about that.
no subject
I know, I'm sorry! It's just- [A few more laughs] There's a difference between being warned about it, and experiencing it firsthand!
[No amount of warnings could've prepared him for that]
Just how long were you sitting on that one?
no subject
I get it, I do. You have to go through it yourself to truly appreciate the experience. I have so many more. They will never get any better.
[And they will be dropped with zero warning. As god intended.
Varian looks a little embarrassed because the answer is, of course, a while.]
Ha-ha. Probably around the time you got math wrong when Zodiac were trying to foist their ads off on us. You know. When you forgot January existed? About then.
[ He's been trying to pinpoint when things started to change for him and while he's still not utterly sure of when it happened or even if there was a specific point at all, he's pretty sure that's when the thought first occurred to him. To be pushed to the back of his mind, of course, but still. ]
no subject
Seriously? Well, something to look forward to I guess.
[Just try not to drop them all at once Varian. He is still a mortal man, he can only take so much.
That said, that answer surprises him. He was expecting maybe "ten minutes" or "a few hours", but since that day? He remembers it, it was a pretty dumb blunder on his part. ]
... That long, huh? [It's really sweet, honestly] Well... I'm not really good at coming up with puns, and I'm not sure you want me quoting anime, so...
[He'll lean over and give Varian a kiss on the cheek. ]
