Strange enough though, he doesn't see like he's home. Huh. So he'll message him]
Hey honey, where are you? I'm at your house but you don't seem to be home.
[Maybe Varian did go to dump Haru in the harbor. Good for him. ]
no subject
As promised, though, he does respond when Jun messages him. ]
I'm at my forge. I needed to get away for a bit. You can come.
[So no, did not drop Haru in the harbour. As tempting as that was. ]
-> Action
Your father found me and gave me a lot of grilled meat.
So I got to try to fit that into my fridge, but then I'll be on my way.
[With that he'll teleport to his room and spend the next few minutes playing fridge tetris as he tries to fit the pile of meat Amal gave him and the drinks he bought for anime night into a small fridge.
Once he's managed that and is confident the fridge door won't pop open, he'll teleport to the forge. He's got a thermos of brewed tea with him- the kind his own dad would always make him to help him calm down.]
Hey Var.
no subject
[Jun no doubt has more grilled meat than one person ever needs. But that's what happens when you fail the Amal Gauntlet. Even if he were home, Varian couldn't have saved him from that.
Jun will find Varian in his forge, as he said. He's got his goggles pulled down over his eyes, soot scattered across his face as he hammers at a red-hot piece of metal, bending it this way and that. Sure, he could use his earth abilities on this, he could change its shape with a twist of his hand. But there's something... comforting about doing this the old-fashioned way.
He glances up as Jun teleports in, offering a fleeting smile that has far too much strain to it to be effective.]
Hey, you. Are you doing okay?
no subject
You know what, I'm not going to unpack that right now.
[Yeah. Let's just leave the cursed thoughts of the meat cube be. At least Amal seems happy about it, and he's not going to turn down some free food.
He looks at Varian. He doesn't know much about blacksmithing, but he at least can tell that Varian sure chose to be doing the thing that requires beating something with a hammer. Which... yeah, that tracks]
Ha... feels like I should be the one asking that question. I had a great time at Kmart.
[He's fine, in other words]
Sorry about Haru. Sometimes he likes to poke people on purpose until they bite back. I was hoping he'd outgrown that tendency, but...
[Nope. He in fact did not.]
no subject
He considers Jun turning the question on him, then goes back to hammering his piece of metal. ]
No. I'm not okay.
[He hits it a few more times, before pulling it up with the tongs, dropping it into a bucket of water, which hisses angrily as steam rises up from it. He watches it for a moment, before turning his attention back to his partner.]
...Yeah. I got that impression. Well. He got what he wanted, and now we both feel like crud. Hope he's happy.
no subject
[If he sounds flippant about it, it's because he is. He'll check on Haru later, but right now he imagines he's off somewhere licking his wounds like some deranged street cat.
He'll move to a nearby table and chair at the forge. He'll pull out the thermos along with a couple cups]
I thought you might like some tea while we talked. Dad would always brew this blend after I had a stressful day.
no subject
...Thanks, mein herz. [He scrubs a hand over his face, displacing the soot from the forge more around it, but doesn't seem to mind it.] I'd... like that. That was a lot.
no subject
Mm, I'm sure it was. [It was getting pretty intense when Jun had peaced out]
I didn't read the text chain after I left, and I don't plan to do so. Up to you if you want to share what was said or not.
no subject
He's deeply against you trying to save his life. Like... I don't know from the way he was talking, he thought you just being his brother and you trying to find ways to make sure he doesn't die before the damn year's out were somehow mutually exclusive of one another.
[He takes another sip of his tea, an angry little slurp.]
He made a big deal about you trying to be a saviour or something, and it irritated me. Like, no, you idiot, obviously that's not what it is. It's like the concept of wanting to keep your family members alive or something was some big heroic act when it's just loving your family. He just got your motivations completely wrong, and it made me mad!
[So Varian flipped a whole-ass chair for Jun. At his brother. For being stupid and wrong.]
Also, he does wanna help with the tree, turns out! Just not growing it! [He waves a hand in annoyance. ] Which, okay can we communicate that please!
no subject
Jun, however... doesn't react nearly as strongly as Varian. He doesn't have much of an ego to bruise, and this is hardly the first time someone's gotten his motivations wrong. It was a pretty regular occurrence for Seal Knights. How frequently people get cagey or on edge the second a holy knight is in their presence, as if they're just waiting for him to act out their worst expectations of him.
Instead, his demeanor is calm, only raises an eyebrow when the word "savior" gets brought up]
He really said the word "savior"? Seriously? [But instead of getting mad... he just snorts] Oh I'm sending him so many pamphlets about Jesus.
[Gonna make Apollo SCREAM. He'll take a sip of his tea.]
Whatever. He can think whatever he wants about my motivations, it's not going to change what I do. He'd do the same if the roles were reversed, and he knows it.
no subject
He lets out a frustrated little sound as he sips his tea. ]
Exactly! It's so irritating. It feels like he's thinking to worst about you... which I know he isn't but it came across that way and I guess I kinda just snapped a bit.
[ Just a bit. He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.]
Anyway, he touched a nerve, and I'm sorry I got into it with him, but he kept pushing.
no subject
Hey, you have nothing to apologize for. It was just an argument, and one that he started at that. If he's like what I remember, he's not going to hold it against you. [He'll give his arm a gentle squeeze] You had an all-out fight with one of my siblings, and look- nothing's broken.
[Which honestly? Was the more important part to Jun rather than how he's perceived. He knew how nervous Varian had been about rocking the boat with Jun's family. That doing something wrong would cause everything to fall apart.
But now here they are, with a thoroughly rocked boat- but it's still all together. Jun wasn't upset, and he's sure Haru will get past it too. ]
... And thank you, for standing up for me. I'm sure at the very least, you gave him some food for thought.
no subject
H... hah, you're right. Nothing's broken. I mean... kinda watched to break Haru's face a little, but I didn't! And...yeah, you were right about everything. I didn't need to worry about it. Things are... well, they still kinda suck but they didn't end in a completely broken way.
[He can finally breathe a little easier about that one, now. It had been worrying him, but it was a spectre that could have only been banished by experiencing it and coming out the other end. At Jun's gratitude, he chuffs out a little laugh, leaning in to press a gentle, loving kiss on his boyfriend's forehead. ]
Of course I stood up for you. I'd fight the whole world for you. I hope he did think about it - maybe learned that your reasons for helping him are a lot simpler than he seems to think.
no subject
You wouldn't be the first. I remember a couple kids taking swings at him when he got like this. He's lucky he's good at dodging. [Must be that future sight of his] Mm, and it'll get better. No doubt you two will talk it out later.
[Once both of them have had a chance to calm down, Jun was pretty confident about that. At this point, Jun's more glad to see Varian getting over that fear of his, rather than the actual contents of the fight. He knows that was eating at his boyfriend.]
Haha, you don't have to fight the whole world for me, but I appreciate your sentiment. [Don't actually. He does not want a reprise of the Crusades.] If he brings it up with me, I'll try to explain my reasons. I'm not going to blame him for overthinking things- I can be pretty guilty of that myself.
[Yeah it's like half your problem Jun. Too much thinking while never actually saying anything]
no subject
[ And he's had MUCH BIGGER fallouts than that with people. ]
Maybe I want to. [Maybe he wants to be a little feral raccoon about it and bite the people that upset his boyfriend. Maybe he wants that, Jun!
He snorts lightly, rolling his eyes lightly. ]
Yeah, I have noticed that plenty. You both for sure need to sit down and talk about it.
no subject
[This wasn't nearly like apologizing to the royal family for trying to kill some of them
He makes an "ehhhh" sound about it]
Yeah, we'll get to it sometime I'm sure. But there's been so many heavy conversations since he's shown up that I don't mind waiting on that one.
[Of course you don't Jun. If it were up to you Jun, it'd never happen]
no subject
[They're like a pack of lunatics, standing with their arms outstretched yelling "bring it on then"! He's noticed. It's very hard not to notice.
But then, he's not much better. So he supposes he's well suited for them. Jun says that and Varian just. He's gonna stare a bit. Because Honey. Honey, please. He sighs softly. ]
I mean... I do get but that feels like um... an important one to get to? P-probably sooner rather than later? Seen as it's pertinent.
[Jun he knows you will avoid the conversation forever, but sweetie, baby, love of his life, please do not. ]
no subject
[What, he loves his boyfriend but he knows Varian is a feral raccoon that also loves fight. It's what their whole relationship was based on. For years.
But oh. He feels that look on him. He knows that stare. He knows what it means. And he knows... Varian also has a point. (15). His shoulders slump, he lets out a sigh.]
...I... guess, but is it so pertinent that it can't wait until after anime night? The latest episode of Solitary Training ended on a cliffhanger and I was really looking forward to watching the conclusion tonight.
no subject
Hah, you know, I can't even argue with that. Guess I'm better suited to them than I thought.
[Varian watches those shoulders slump, he has a feeling this is a delay tactic, but it has been a lot recently, so he supposes it's only fair Jun get a little downtime. He reaches out to gently brush some hair from his partner's face. ]
Alright. I think that's reasonable. Enjoy yourself tonight, just... don't let it linger for too long, okay?
no subject
Of course you are. You're already part of this pack.
[Both figuratively and literally, thanks to those werewolf curses.
And... yeah, it is a delay tactic, but he truly does just want a break more than anything]
I won't, don't worry. Just need a bit of a breather before we dive into the deep end again.
no subject
Is that so, huh? So what you're telling me is there's no escape now, huh? Just part of the crazy forever?
[ He doesn't sound bothered by that at all. If anything, it makes his chest feel warm and full. After all his stress about connecting with Jun's family having the proof that it's fine, that there really was nothing to worry about is deeply comforting. ]
That's fair. It really has been a lot. You need a break too. [And maybe soon everything will stop snowballing. ] Thank you for saying you will, though. I know it's not easy for you, I'm proud of you. [He leans in to press a gentle kiss on Jun's forehead. ] Love you.
no subject
Bold words coming from a guy whose father just gifted me with a mini-fridge's worth of meat as a hello. [Your side is crazy too babe, don't pretend otherwise.]
But... that's right. [He'll lift Varian's hand up to his mouth so he can kiss the back of it lovingly. His other hand will reach into his shirt and pull out the pendant that Varian made him for Christmas so Varian can see it. He's worn it constantly since then] You're mine and I'm yours forever - just as we vowed. So you're part of this family, no matter what.
no subject
He snickers a little. ]
He's a feeder! You knew that about him before you started dating me, so if he's feeding you now, you only have yourself to blame. You knew the risks.
[Because yes, he does know his side is crazy, too. It's so crazy.
He smiles as Jun kisses his hand, before watching him pull out the pendant. He's always worn the watch Jun got him, of course, but this feels... nice. It brings a swell of dopey, happy feelings into his chest. A blush crosses his cheeks as he feels so very loved by his partner. That was a direct hit.]
Wow. There you go with... with the feet sweeping again. [He's going to lean in and press a little kiss on Jun's lips- he can't help himself. ] Of course, you're suck with me forever - which means your family is, too. Lucky them.
no subject
Hey, I didn't say it was a bad thing. Just that neither of our families are "normal".
[Though really, what is even normal in this city anymore.
Jun will grin as he returns that kiss, pretty proud of himself that he pulled off being charming and cheered Varian up. He really did love this man, so much]
Mm, lucky for them indeed. [He'll give him another loving kiss ] And I'm the luckiest one of all, having you.
