[Good think Fern is having a good time, because Varian sure isn't. He's keeping his eyes screwed tight shut.]

... I think you're good, V. Lotta chasing, not a whole lot of chopping people.

[Varian is very glad for the lack of decapitation!! At Fern's reassurance, he finally comes out of his grassy hiding place to peer at the screen.]

They got out alive?

[The movie isn't over, and Jack Nicholson seemed reeeeeaaally murderous.]

[Varian's still clinging onto Fern as he watches, hrmmmmmm this was such a bad movie choice. ]

Okay so let's just make a mental note to never go to an abandoned hotel in the middle of nowhere no matter how much they pay us because that's haunted.

Whaaat? [Fern has to do his best to not start laughing at that.] Why not?? Between your brains and my swords we'd be killer in a haunted hotel!

I'm not convinced the swords would actually work against the ghosts, Bärchen. And as the axe just proved, bringing weapons into this might end up bad.

[What if them gets SUPER HAUNTED and tries to murder the other D:]

I dunno, my sword cut through some ghosty jerk one time, I think we'd be okay.

[Okay, so that makes him turn to give Fern a confused look.]

You've managed to stab a ghost?

[Fern just shrugs.]

He might've been some kinda... fear manifestation? All metaphorical like? I dunno, I was Finn at the time and the Grass Sword sliced the guy in half and he died.

A...fear manifestation? So like...were you awake? Or was this like... a haunted house scenario?

[Fern what was your LIFE?]

Nope, I was in the ocean. Long story, used to be terrified of it, and I was trying to get over my fear when that donkus showed up. The Grass Sword cut 'em in half.

[Super helpful he knows, Ooo is just weird sometimes.]

So- so he attacked you...in the ocean? That's. Well, I guess that's good you defeated him? Does that mean you're not afraid of the ocean anymore?

Yeah and yeah! I mean, I got over my fear 'cause I faced it, not because I beat that guy. I went for a swim and didn't die, that helped a lot.

[Aww, that gets a little smile out of him.]

Good! I'm glad. I'm really proud of you for facing your fears.

Hah, well, Finn did. [Since he was Finn at the time. He shrugs.] But yeah - important thing is, I can maybe kill ghosts with my swords.

Those are your memories too so I am counting them as a win for you too. So there. [Suck it, boyfriend!!] You know, that IS something that's probably gonna come in handy in this crazy place one day in the future.

Yeahhhh. Probs a good chance of some evil ghosts showing up sometime. Maybe through one of the gates or something.

Yeah, but they're little kids. That's crossing the street is pretty daunting when you're that young. Heck, it was daunting for me when I first got here because if you don't understand cars, they're pretty terrifying! You make it less scary for them and that's a big deal.
