...One of my experiments hurt my dad- trapped him in something that only Rapunzel could help with. But when I went to her for help she... well, she couldn't. Due to reasons beyond her control.

Okay, so. Rapunzel couldn't help me with him at first, but I knew there was a flower that gave Rapunzel her powers- that if I could get to that, maybe I could use that to free my father. So I drugged the castle guards with a truth serum to find out where it was, and lied to Rapunzel to get her to help me into the vault where it was. Stealing it was treason, and when she realised what was happening she tried to get me to give it up. I didn't, and I escape with the flower. It... didn't work. The power was all in her now. But I'd burned that bridge when I stole the flower, I knew she wouldn't help me any more. Not willingly, anyway.

Oh. Oh wow. I am totally invested in this story, but I think I can see where it's starting to go. You were definitely desperate though, and I can't blame you. When someone you love is in danger, real danger, you'd do anything to try and help them, even if it was dangerous.

I kidnapped her mom. I knew she'd come to save her. I threatened the queen with the same amber that encased my dad, set it off by her. I didn't even know if using Rapunzel's hair would kill her or not, and I didn't care. It didn't work, nothing did. So I finally snapped and attacked them all with a giant robot. I tried to kill the queen and Rapunzel's best friend with it- Rapunzel worked out a way to stop me before I could... do that, so that- that was something.
[He doesn't think he could have actually lived with himself if he'd ended up killing them. Not now. ]

Whoa, that is...some heavy stuff. Villain stuff even, but I'm not holding that against you. When you have to save someone you love and you think not enough was done, you start to get creative about getting your results. You lose sight of how it might affect other people. Man. I'm sorry Varian.

[He;s got better, with the self-loathing in the last few years. Time and distance have helped, but oh boy does he still hate himself quite a lot. He should have known better. He should have been better.
She would be right in thinking there was more, though.]
Anyway, I stayed in the dungeons for about a year- Rapunzel had other things to do, outside the Kingdom. There I met up with a guy who helped me escape. We had plans to fix things... except, it wasn't really fixing anything. One of their number used magic to wipe the king and queen's memories. I then stepped in as a fake advisor- got the people in the kingdom to mind the minerals I needed to make the magic into a gas. I decided the only way out was to wipe everyone's memories, give myself a completely clean slate.
...Obviously, that was a stupid idea and it didn't work. The people I'd aligned myself with didn't want to use my chemical for that. They wanted to use it to raze Corona to the ground. Kill everyone. That... wasn't a line I was willing to cross. Luckily Rapunzel had come back by then and helped me- helped me fix it. The bad guys got put away and I've been working on making good on the mistakes I've made since then.

That's rough. So your actions indirectly could have hurt a lot of people. That's a hard thing to think about. If its any consolation, I would never have thought you were capable of doing the stuff you just talked about. I haven't seen you do anything but good things since you've been here. I'm sure that those mistakes you made helped to remind you that anyone can be lead to a bad path, and vice versa.

That's rough to keep in your head. It's hard enough to remember on your own, but to have it keep coming up is just not right.
It's there for any of us. Whenever something happens here, we want to take it out on someone and be mad about it. It's hard to deal with something bad happening, so our emotions decide out actions even if we'll feel bad about it later. It sucks. But if that happens, we also have to try and remember that any action we take will affect someone too. You learned it the hard way.
[Luz had to learn it too. She'd come close when she saw Lilith again, remembering everything the woman had done to her the previous night, almost killing her, using her as a ransom to get Eda depowered and weak, making her walk back to the Owl House, beaten, rebuffed and told she didn't belong there. It was a feeling that still stayed in the back of her mind, how angry she was, how she was willing to cause Lilith harm the next time she saw her].
