Even if you left it on, you wouldn't upset me. [She plucked Eclipse off the top of Varian's head and set the Mimikyu on her own shoulder.]

Besides, I will never say no to an opportunity to shop.

[He snorts softly, following her into the house proper.]

Oh, well. If that's the case, don't let me get in the way of your shopping.

[Her eyes widened a bit at that and then she merely smiled wide and leaned forward and pressed a kiss to Varian's temple.]

Varian, the apocalypse cannot get in the way of my shopping.

[Is she joking?]

So! [She made her way into the kitchen, a plate of Makoto's sweets and cookies in the center of the kitchen island.]

Shall we jump right into how you're feeling or do you want to talk about other things and slowly work our way to the breakup?

[That gets a soft chuckle out of him. He's pretty sure she isn't.]

Oh, I know. Believe me, I know.

[He follows behind her, his smile starting to fade a little.]

N-no, it's fine. We can talk about it. [He looks down, holding his arm in a hand in that self-comforting gesture of his.] I mean- I don't know. I know it was the right thing to do, and we were just on the way to making one another miserable. And we're still gonna try to be friends so it's not like I'll never speak to her again. But... I'm still kinda sad too?

[lightthedarkness]

[She sees his self-comforting gesture and reaches out, resting a hand in the middle of his shoulders.]

You can be all of that, you know? Sad, happy, miserable, tired, excited. [She reached up and ran a hand through his hair.] Humans are incredibly complicated.

You are allowed to be sad. You are allowed to be happy, if that's what you want to feel.

How were you making each other miserable?

[He appreciates it, and offers a flicker of a smile in response.]

I know. I know I can feel all of that. I'm just... I don't know. Mentally sorting it out still. Like putting stuff into boxes when you move house or... something.

[He shakes his head.]

We weren't there yet, but it was looming. [He picks at the sleeve of his shirt.] When things were good here, we were great. But when things got bad it was... hard. We're really different people and as much as we hoped our difference balanced out they just... weren't. I guess we were going different places and realised we could support each other better as friends. Gives more of a chance to step back when we need to.

Varian... I'm not trying to say you should rush back to her, but I do want to caution that you need to expect hard times are going to happen no matter who you're in a relationship with. Even if this WASN'T Deerington, nasty stuff happens to all couples... BELIEVE me. So I just want to make sure that... you know, I guess. That everyone goes through rough times.

I'm very aware of that. I know I'm not some... relationship expert, but I'm not stupid.

[A touch of defensiveness might be creeping into his tone, his arms folding as those protective walls of his creep up a little. He and Ruby had been ignoring the fractures between them for months, willfully hoping they'd magically fix themselves. They did not, and they decided to cut it off while there were still fissures instead of gaping chasms. ]

This was as much her choice as it was mine. I didn't run at the first sign of trouble. Neither did she.

I would never call you stupid. That would be the last thing I EVER call you.

[She reached out again, and true to Usagi form she went for it and grabbed his hand, pulling him closer to her, into a hug. Forever suffer forced hugs, Varian. She couldn't rest her chin on his head so she settled for his shoulder... sorta.]

I didn't think either of you ran at the first sign of trouble. I know you didn't, and wouldn't. [Neither would... especially the two of them. More often than not, they had a bad habit of running headfirst INTO trouble.]

[As much as he'd normally fight it, he's pretty tired and it's been an emotional rollercoaster for him. Usagi is and always has been a solid pillar for him. A safe harbour in all the bad times. So this time he hugs her back, burying his face into her shoulder and taking a deep breath. ]

It was just... hard, I guess. I'm not good at- people stuff anyway, and this was a whole new thing to deal with. I guess I'm just trying to figure out what to do now.

[lightthedarkness]

[She rubbed circles along his back.]

Well, what you do now is you drink some hot chocolate, we watch some really really bad sci-fi and horror movies, they're called B-movies. And I introduce you to the wonderful world of racing video games.

And then, we talk about whatever you want. Can be Ruby or not Ruby, it can be science though I make absolutely no promise I can follow along, it can be about baking, even if you want. You can even sing if that's what you're in the mood for.

[droptheious]

[That does feel nice, and he closes his eyes, calming his breathing, letting Usagi work her magic. That all sounds... pretty great, really. A way to cut himself off from his worries, for a little while. ]

I'd really appreciate all of that, Usagi. [He hugs her a little tighter.] I really appreciate having you around. I love you a lot.

[lightthedarkness]

I love you too. [She pressed a kiss to his temple before pressing her forehead to Varian's.]

And whatever you feel, whenever you feel it, we'll take them as they come and go through them as we need to.

[The hot chocolate doesn't take all that long to make before two steaming mugs, covered in whipped cream with a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg and sprinkles are in their hands as they sit on the couch.]

[They are very primped and ready for some gosh dang great comfort times. And boy, does Varian need it. He offers a smile.]

[She lightly booped him on the nose before pulling him, slowly, to the couch. She set her hot chocolate down and grinned.] Be right back!

[And a few minutes later, Usagi came back with a bowl filled with popcorn, and then lightly stacked bowls with candy and chips and, as a special treat? Oreos.

She set it all down on the table.]
