[Ruby thinks on that briefly and frowns. It was a little sad to think about it like that. She was sure her world wasn't much different, they had likely lost so much in the Great War but it was over shadowed by how far their technology had become since then.]

Well hey. At the very least we have you around to remember it. It's not really gone and as long that's the case. Maybe someone else will come around that'd rather do it the old way too.

[She watches carefully as he works. Happy to see that while he isn't at one hundred percent he's still managing the work just fine. She keeps a hand on the drawer and moves to gather up some of the inner shelf pieces with her free hand.]

Three months? ...That is a long time.

[She couldn't imagine going through something like. Or having to watch as one of the people she cared for went through it.

She manages a brighter smile.]

He's trying to look out for you. Which is great, but he can't keep doing that to himself. I know he'll probably act like I'm trying to look after everyone if I just try and take it off his shoulders. But maybe some team work and some outside help will get him to ease up a little.

Maybe? From my research, some people still do it as a hobby?

[Which is better than nothing, he supposes. He focuses on the work for a moment, eyebrows pulled together. He's been increasingly worried about Fern. That he might not get his memory back at all. And while he meant it when he told the other boy they would work it out, that he wouldn't lose him, the pain still wrenches in his chest.

But he doubts Ruby of all people needs to hear that, so he sucks in a breath.]

...Yeah. A really, really long time.

[He closes his eyes, takes a moment to try and pack way the emotions bubbling away there, then continues on.]

You might have better luck convincing Glitch than me. Maybe you can just wear him down with that Ruby Rose Optimism of yours. That can work wonders.

Hey! That's better than it being a forgotten art. Maybe we could look around and see who around here likes ye-olden days kind of stuff. Get you a little piece of home?

[She sees the way his brow furrows and the worry in his tone. Her feelings were certainly mixed on this. She wasn't exactly thrilled or comfortable with the situation. It was hard to be when Fern had unapologetically hated her for as long as he had. And the fact that their feud had got Glitch hurt.

But she brushed that aside for now, she could deal with those feelings later. Instead she lets her hand slide up to rest on Varian's shoulder.]

He'll get them back, I know it.

[That's... All she really can really manage to say about that and switches gears.]

I've heard people say that before. I'll give it my best shot. Worst comes to worse I can always knock him out for awhile. But we'll give the optimism a solid shot first.

That'd be pretty nice. I'd probably fit in with all the skulls.

[So many skulls. He doesn't really smile at the contact, heaving out a soft sigh.]

Y-yeah. I hope so.

[He knows the trouble between Ruby and Fern hasn't really gotten any better- and he hasn't even had a chance to broach anything with Fern yet. Everything keeps falling apart, and he sure as hell can't say anything while the guy doesn't even remember him. So he's stuck in this weird, emotional limbo, not knowing how to feel about anything.]

Sounds like a good plan. Optimism first, casual violence second.

Great! Well sounds like we've got some furniture shopping in our future too. If someone's carving it out we could always ask them to carve some skulls into it too! Really play up the aesthetic.

[She notices the lack of a smile, but just gives his shoulder a squeeze before she let's go.]

[At the very least she knew and understood the emotional limbo he was going through. She was stuck there as well, waiting for some sort of change.

She does smile at the next comment.]

It's a deal. I can work with those priorities.

[She takes the pieces for the drawers and starts to arrange them to put them together.]

The instructions say anything in particular about putting these together?

[Because they really should get back to the task at hand.]

That is true. More skulls would fit in with the theme.

[He manages a flicker of a smile in her direction at the shoulder squeeze. It doesn't quite reach his eyes, but an attempt was made.

He welcomes the change of topic, turning to pursue the instructions. ]

Okay, so we need to make sure the smooth parts are on the inside the screws should have a corner part to them, so they fit two pieces together at once.

Building a real air of menace here. I like it. It's getting that final boss fight vibe to it.

[She returns that smile. She understands why it doesn't quite reach his eyes. She knows the last few months have been so hard on him and she doesn't envy the situation she was in. All she can do is support him to the best of her ability.

But they have other things to focus on and she'd much rather get back to that too. She listens to the instructions he's given and arranges them so the smooth sides are facing up and starts to put them into place.]

Do you want to hold them together, or do you want to screw them in?

Gotta make sure the house has the right vibe after all. We don't want to change what we've already got going on.

[It's easier to focus on the building. That is something he can control- as opposed to everything else in his life hurtling towards insanity.]

I can hold them this time, if you want. Equal division of labour, and everything.

I mean you could, but it makes more sense to go all in once you've already started.

[They both need that stability in their life right now. They can slowly build themselves up to another insanity hurtle later.

She brightens up when she realizes it's her turn to play with the screw driver and holds onto the pieces until he manages to grab a hold of them.]

Just checking. I'd let you take another turn if you want, not that I'm trying to slack off or anything.

This is just, nice. You know?

[She gives him a playful nudge on the arm and then picks up the screw driver and the starts to work the pieces together.]

Especially when we already have all the skulls.

[His smile softens, because... this is nice, it's really nice. It's the most normal thing he's done for weeks. ]

Yeah, it's really nice. Thank you for this.

[She finishes with the screws and sits up to return that smile. Her eyes meet his briefly and then she glances over their work.]

It's the least I could do really. I know you've been going through a lot and I thought this might help you just... get your mind off things for awhile.

Yang kind of went through something similar. So I know it's not really easy.

[It hadn't helped that Ruby had ran away before she could really see the full extent of that recovery, but she remembered just how lost her sister had seemed before she left.]

I just want you to know I'm here for you.

It did... it is. It's kinda been... a lot to deal with, all at once, you know? It's been overwhelming.

[And he just hasn't known how to process it. Maybe one or two of the things he's had to deal with over the last month he could have coped with. But the sheer amount of awful? No way.

He nods when she talks about Yang. Because that makes sense. She's been on this side of things before. He's still not sure how comfortable he is with talking about the limb loss, but it's good to know she's been there. ]

...No. It's not.

[Which is deeply simplifying it, but it's about as far as he can do when he's still trying to deal with all of the EVERYTHING ELSE. Still, he does turn to offer a smile, reaching out to put a hand on her shoulder.]

I know. I really appreciate it a lot. It means the world that you are.

[He really took the words out of her mouth with that one. They've both been through so much that it's hard to see where one trauma ends and the other begins. She's always been better focusing on others issues than her own. It was just who she was and fit neatly in with her own thoughts on leadership. She wasn't sure herself how to start unpacking what had happened.]

Yeah... That might be putting it lightly. We'll just take it a day at a time.

And then we can see where things go?

[It's the best method she can think of at the moment. Just keep trying to move forward.

She returns his nod and gives the desk drawers a little tug just to make sure they're stable at the moment. She knew it was going to be harder than that to get him to talk about it but she wanted to at least get the offer out that he could if he needed to.]

Yeah. Just- Keep doing your best.

[The hand touches her shoulder and she feels herself smile. She lets a hand rise up and let's it rest over his for a moment, giving it a gentle squeeze.]

Of course. You'd have to try pretty hard to get rid of me at this point.

I think I can work with that.

[He ALMOST says "walk before we run" but that's... not a thing he can do either of right now so he just swallows it back down. Don't think about it.

Oh. Okay, that gets a better smile from him, more convincing. He's sure there's still plenty he can do to drive her away. The fact she's still around after everything he's put her through is a miracle in itself. ]

...Yeah, I'll give you that. You're pretty tenacious about that.

Glad to hear it.

[That smile gets one out of her and she leans in to let an arm wrap around his shoulders gently, she doesn't want to throw him off balance or anything.]

Yeah, pretty proud of that too.

[She isn't without her doubts either, but those can wait for now. She was where she felt she needed to be right now and was happy to be there.]

Okay. Shelving is put together. What are we onto next?

[He leans into her a little anyway- not out of necessity or because he's losing his balance- just because it's nice. ]

Okay, I think we are finally ready to get the legs on.

[She feels him lean in and her smile warms up. It was incredibly nice. She lets them stay like for a little until she eventually pulls away and takes a look at the legs.]

Looks like it. Seem easy enough, there's four little spots screw them in on the legs. Legs go on the corners? How hard could it be?

[She holds the first leg against the desk at the middle just to be silly. She looks to him and smiles before sliding it over at the corner.]

[Oh Ruby, never change. The action gets a snort of amusement out of him. ]

See, you joke, but I could absolutely see some people in Deerington doing this.

[He picks up another leg, starting to screw it into the corner. ]

If you have a bubbling need to make a leg pun, I promise I won't be offended.

[She's an unstoppable force, she'll never change.]

Okay. Yeah. Can you imagine Glitch trying to assemble a desk?

[She finishes screwing in the first leg and moves onto the next. There's a pause as she considers it.]

Leg puns, Seriously. I can't stand them.

I can imagine Glitch throwing pieces of a desk at a wall when it doesn't fit together how he wants them to.

[He moves onto the other near him, screwing it into place and giving a soft snort of amusement.]

I do, however, reserve the right to judge them if they're bad puns,

[That gets a snort and a giggle out of her.]

Pffffft~ All the swearing and screws flying around as he throws a little magnet power fit.

[She loves Glitch a whole lot, but she's totally going to dunk on his temper.]

Wow, don't give knee that. My family is known for their puns.

[Once the legs are screwed in they look just about down. She'll give him a smile.]

Slide over a little and I'll flip this over. Is there a spot in the room you'd prefer it?

That's exactly how it would go- and then it would end with screws literally embedded into the wall.

[Glitch's temper deserves to be dunked on. ]

Hah. I have noticed. Trust me, I've noticed. Fighting grimm and making puns. It's like your family speciality.

[He nods, moving for her before pointing at a relatively empty spot in his room. You know, besides all the other empty spots because he never stays here.]

I guess that's as good as anywhere.

Classic Glitch, then he storms out of the room and a few hours later maybe asks for some help.

[It really does.]

That's what happens when you have a full family of Huntsmen and Huntresses, have to keep the mood light sometimes.

[She flips the desk onto it's legs and gently pushes it over there. Trying to do her best not to get ding the walls or scratch the floor, actually being safe about something for once.]

Got it.

[She cautiously steps over toward him and debates asking him if he needs a hand getting up, but holds back.]

Guess we should go downstairs and get you some equipment and stuff, huh?

In the most passive-aggressive way possible! Can't let us know he actually needs help.

[They love him a lot, the fact they're dragging him is just a sign of that.]

I guess it makes sense. When you're fighting something that's literally attracted to negative emotions, that sort of thing has to be a shield all of its own.

[He nods, moving to get up, but realising he's... probably not going to make it. It's a mar on his pride to have to ask for help, and it's clear in the fleeting moment of disappointment on his face- before he masks it with a weak smile, holding out a hand. ]

Sure. Give me hand?

Brothers, forbid he actually do something like that. At least he's consistent with it? Makes it easier to know when something's wrong.

[He's really earned that love.]

Kind of! I've always seen as part of the job. If we go in and at least look like we know what we're doing it inspires more confidence in the people around us, which hopefully means less Grimm get attracted to the area. Which makes the job easier in the long run.

[She frowns and it crushes her to see that look of disappointment in his face, because of course she catches it. She returns the weak smile with one of her own and slips in behind him.]

Yeah, but plant your crutches on the ground and get your foot ready. This might be awkward.

[And she lets her arms slide under his shoulders, she gently and very slowly starts to lift him off the ground. Waiting for him to plant his foot down and raise himself up to the best of his own ability. She only wanted to help, she didn't want to do it for him.]
