[Varian's birthday technically wasn't until Monday, but he wanted to make sure they had the whole weekend. Jun had told him to clear his schedule, but not to go into details why. He'd asked Amal to pack a travel bag for Varian while he was in classes even, which sat next to Jun in the Serenitea pot.

He'd told Varian to come meet him here for the start of his surprise on Thursday morning. Once he's here and making sure thing is ready? He'll be sending a telepathic message to Varian]

Alright, I'm in the Serenitea Pot. Are you on your way?

[Varian has been deeply curious about what Jun has planned for his birthday. But he's kept to his word (as always) and not pried about it. Jun wanted it to be a surprise, and Varian wouldn't ruin that for all the world. Honestly, he's never had a birthday surprise before. He's pretty excited for whatever Jun might pull on him.

He definitely isn't expecting what Jun has actually planned. Not even if he had a million guesses would he guess that. ]

I sure am. I'm headed to your place now, then I'll get into the pot.

[ The shadow travel IS pretty nice, it's making his life considerably easier. It's just a quick leap into the shadowy area Jun has left for him, and then he heads over to the Serenity Pot. His curiosity is piqued even more, now. What did the pot have to do with this? But inside he goes! ]

Okay, I'm here!

[Oh yeah, Jun is fairly sure that Varian couldn't possibly guess this one. He's done a lot of work to keep it under wraps, to make Varian didn't catch on. Fortunately, it was pretty easy thanks to him being so busy working on Ragna's prothestic arm.

Thanks for taking one for the team, Ragna.

When Varian comes in, Jun will head over to greet him. From the looks of things, the Serenitea pot looks the same as usual. The only thing to note is that there's a couple suitcases near Jun's gardening bench.

He'll give Varian a smile before kissing him on the cheek. He's keeping to telepathy, at least until they're out of Kaisou and away from any Fae influence]

Hello, Var. Happy early birthday, you ready for this weekend?

[Ragna really has been a team player this month!

Varian happily accepts the kiss to his cheek, giving Jun one to his own in turn. He does notice the suitcases, which brings a spring of confusion to his mind. Perhaps Jun planned for them to stay in a spirit realm for a weekend? He did say he wanted to go to Hyrule forest for a weekend, maybe it's that.

He remembers the vow of silence, and immediately slips into the telepathy. It's easier and honestly, he finds a great comfort in it anyway. ]

Thank you, Mein Herz. I... think so? But now I'm REALLY curious. Are those suitcases?

[He grins a little as Varian notices]

They are. Your dad was nice enough to pack one for you too. It'll make sense in a second. Just... stay in here until I tell you to come out, okay?

[He'll give a wink before he leaves the Serenitea pot. Once he's outside, he'll grab hold of it and teleport himself and the serenitea pot to the designated spot. It won't take more than a couple minutes before Jun speaks up again]

Okay, you can come out now!

[When Varian steps out of the Serenitea pot, he'll find he won't be in the fortress of meropide anymore. Rather... he'll be outside, looking at a scenic spot that can only be Germany]

Well, that was sneaky of him. I didn't notice at all. But I have been pretty busy.

[ He's making a mental note that Amal is sneakier than he gives him credit for. Something to watch in the future! His eyebrows raise at the odd request. ]

Uhhhhhh... okay? Sure? I'll stay in here.

[ Varian watches his boyfriend leave the pot, and he's expecting maybe a bit of a wait, but Jun really did mean just a second. He steels himself for a moment, before taking a breath and leaving the Serenity Pot. ]

Out of everything he was expecting, he was not expecting to be somewhere that looks very much like home. He knows that's impossible - going back to Corona is barred forever for him. But this-

No. This was still Germany. It was blatantly Germany. But... but he couldn't leave Kaisou. That much had been made very clear to him when he first hit the invisible, painful wall when he tried to walk the outskirts of the state park as a wolf. How is he even HERE???

His mouth opens and closes like a confused fish, looking around them. He's in Germany. This is Germany. How the fuck is he in Germany??? ]

Wha- what's happening?

[ It's said out loud because THINKING words is beyond him just for a moment. He's so confused. ]

[And this moment right here... it made all the hard work and planning worth it. The long nights of research and experimenting with the serenitea pot, the travels across europe in an RV -- this is what it was for

With no fae throwing music curses around, Jun will use his actual voice to speak]

We're in Germany. Near Baden Baden in the Black Forest, specifically.

[He'll reach over to take Varian's hand, giving it a squeeze]

It isn't quite Corona, I know, but.... welcome home.

[They're in the Black Forest. They're as close to Corona as they can possibly be without traversing a whole other world. He has no idea how Jun managed that, but for a moment that doesn't matter. What matters is that his boyfriend found a way to give him the closest thing to something he'd accepted he'd lost forever.

He feels the squeeze of his hand and returns it, but for a moment he's overwhelmed with so much love and gratitude for the man standing next to him. A soft little choked noise escapes him as he processes just what Jun has given him.

Then he's pulling Jun up into his arms, spinning him around as he peppers kisses on his boyfriends face. Is he a little teary? Yeah, more than a little, but they're happy tears. ]

Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!

[He stops the spinning to pull Jun into a proper kiss, before resting his forehead against his partners. ]

Ich liebe Dich [ He murmurs it softly, every word meant more than he could say. ] I don't know how you did this but... god, this is incredible. You're incredible.

[He wasn't expecting to be picked up and spun, so he makes a small surprised sound at that- but it's a happy one. He'll wrap one of his arms around Varian's neck for balance, returning with a kiss on Varian's lips briefly]

Und Ich liebe Dich. [He'll respond in turn, his free hand moving to wipe some of the tears off Varian's face] Haha, it took some doing, I'll admit. I can tell you all about it later over lunch- a lunch with some authentic German food.

[Well, it'll be closer to dinner now thanks to the time zone difference, but eh. Who cares]

But hey, after the birthday you gave me... I had to make sure yours came close to that.

[ A happy little laugh bubbles out of Varian's chest as he presses another kiss to Jun's lips, leaning into the touch as Jun's hand chases away the tears. ]

Yes please, I need to know how you pulled this off. I thought it was impossible for me to leave Kaisou.

[ And here they are, IN GERMANY. He can't get over it, it keeps bringing a thrill to his chest, his heart flip-flopping in delight. He makes a happy little noise. ]

Oh my god, yes. I've missed that.

[He can eat some food that's familiar to him! At the comment, he laughs, shaking his head. ]

Trust me, you have far surpassed a roof date. This is- Jun this is amazing. This once, this ONCE, mind, I'm gonna have to concede defeat. There's no way I can beat what you've done for me today. This is... wow. [ His eyes are tearing up again. ] This means more than I can ever put into words. I love you so much.

[He'll chuckle warmly as well, wiping another tear with his thumb]

Correction: it's impossible for you to fully leave the Spirit Realm. And it just so happens this part of Germany has its own Spirit Vein. So by having you stay in the Serenitea Pot's realm while I moved the teapot itself here-- I transported you from one Spirit Vein to another without you ever leaving the Spirit Realm.

[In other words, he found a way to work around Varian's curse. Was it the same as fully breaking it? No, Jun's pretty sure it's beyond his abilities. But... it was a workaround that opened up a whole world of opportunities for Varian]

Hey, that roof date meant the world to me. It still does. [So don't discredit it. It's a treasured memory to Jun] But... I'll take the victory, because I'm not sure I could outdo this either, short of figuring out how to time travel. [And no, he doesn't think that's happening. He'll move his hand to cup the side of Varian's face]

I love you more than anything, Var. And no matter where I go, I want you to be there with me.

[Varian's hand curls around Jun's wrist as he wipes away a tear, turning his head to press a kiss against his boyfriend's palm. ]

Oh my god, that's genius! I never even considered that. [ He presses a few more kisses to Jun's forehead- absolutely awed and enamoured. ] You're incredible, I love you so much.

[ He found a loophole in a curse that had genuinely gotten him worried. If anything DOES happen to Kaisou, he knows now that he has the means to escape. He doesn't have to live in fear for what that might mean to him. Vash will be delighted by this too, he's sure. But for now? For now he is absolutely overjoyed that Jun has done this for him. ]

Okay, that's fair. I did work really hard on that one, and I'm glad you loved it. [ Varian had more than a few panic attacks while setting that up from being so high up, but seeing Jun light up when he saw all the effort he'd gone to had made it all worth it. ] Hah, and that's very true. It's a very well earned victory.

[ He leans against Jun's hand, still grinning from ear to ear- his heart feeling so full and happy. ]

I love you more than anything too. I can't wait to be able to explore so many places with you. [He leans in to press a gentle kiss on Jun's lips. ] Please marry me.

[Jun can't help himself from smiling, just watching the sheer joy coming from Varian. This was honestly an even better reaction than he was expecting, and god he loves watching it.]

Ha... you're the genius between us, no doubt about that... but I have my moments. [He's not knocking himself, he's pretty comfortable with his own intelligence level. He knows Varian could run circles around him when it came to engineering and creating things. But there was some areas Jun was smart about. And teleporting? Well that was his forte.

The smile on Jun's face gets even wider when Varian asks him to marry him. He'll return the kiss, warm and loving] I will, happily. Ask me a thousand times, and my answer will always be "yes".

[He'll give him another kiss on the forehead before he pulls away a little, still holding onto his hand]

So, I don't have much an itinerary... I figured you should decide what to do your first weekend back in Germany. But I did reserve us a cabin in the forest to stay, and I know of a good place to get some lunch. What would you like?

[ Varian is beyond delighted. Jun always makes him happy, but right now? He's made him happier than he thought was possible. His heart is overflowing with love for the other man right now. ]

True, but this is something else. You should be really proud of thinking of this. I'm blown away.

[Varian never would have considered this, and he absolutely adores Jun for thinking of it. He smiles, big and lopsided and deeply happily, nuzzling his face against his partner's lovingly. ]

Good. Because I probably will ask a thousand times.

[Because he can't help himself. He loves this man so very much, he feels absolutely blessed to have him. At the question his smile turns a little shy. ]

Would... would it be weird to say I just... wanna walk around a little at first? Just to... to see it? Hear people talking? I just wanna... let it soak in that I'm here.

[ To hear people conversing in his native tongue, to see how much his homeland has changed in the intervening centuries. See how it feels compared to being in America. ]

We uh... can drop by the cabin first though, I wanna check that out and it would be probably better to put the teapot there so we're not carrying it around.

Ha, don't worry. I am proud.

[This had been his mission after all, and look at this, he's successfully completed it! Even better than he expected.

And as the shy question, he smiles and squeezes his hand. He gets it. Of course Varian would want some time to take it all in. ]

That's not weird at all, I completely understand. Would you prefer I was with you or you were alone for the walk? ... That's not a weighted question, I know you like to do things on your own, and I don't mind staying at the cottage and napping while you soak in everything and explore.

[He has been teleporting across continents. He's going to crash eventually, that's just inevitable]

[ He completed his mission perfectly!! Varian wants to soak it in again, he's been so far from home, and he'd thought he'd never see it again. He wants to experience the sounds, the smells, everything again.

And oh, that softens his heart so much. He's sure with most people, his penchant for going off on his own would be seen as a flaw rather than something to be encouraged and accepted. But here's Jun, being amazing as always. ]

I don't know what I did to deserve you, but I'm really glad for it. [ That has to be said! He presses a kiss to Jun's forehead. ] I really wanna show you around, but I also know you're probably beat from teleporting. Plus... yeah you know me. [ He gives Jun's hand a squeeze. ] How about we go explore the cabin and get settled in, then I'll have a look around while you rest? Then I can show you around while you show me than nice place to get some food? Does that sound like a fair compromise?

[To Jun, it wasn't a flaw- just another part of Varian. Plus, it wasn't like he was any better. both of them had a bit of a loner streak, preferring to go off on their own for awhile before wandering back to their loved ones. ]

Haha... that sounds perfect to me. I was trying to play it cool so not to damper your excitement... but I've been teleporting from here to Kaisou all morning to get everything set up, so I'm pretty exhausted.

[But he still has at least one more teleport in him. So he'll keep hold of Varian's hand while reaching over to grab the teapot. Once he has both of them, he'll teleport them to the front of the cabin. Sure enough, it's a nice looking place- with a beautiful view of the scenery]

Here it is. It's a bit of a walk to the city, I'll admit, but I wasn't sure how your werewolf side would respond to the different Spirit Vein... so I figured having a place out in the forest would be better. Not to mention... the scenery is just so beautiful out here.

[And Varian couldn't love him enough for that. Though it did mean they balanced each other nicely in that regard. Both could go be loners and recharge their introvert batteries without fear it would hurt and upset the other. ]

Oh my god, really? You really are incredible.

[ Jun is just gonna continue getting praise for a while yet. Varian's absolutely floored by how much his partner has done for him. He whistles, impressed as they appear at the cabin. ]

Honestly, that's fine. I grew up a day's horse ride away from the capital, that's pretty normal for me. [ Distance is something you get used to in the times before cars. ] And that's smart! I'm feeling okay for now? Not... not antsy or anything. If anything, it feels nice. Like putting on an old pair of slippers or something, y'know? Comfy.

[There's a familiar feel to it that sinks down to his bones, warm and welcoming.]

You're right, it's so beautiful This is perfect.

Mm, I wanted to make sure it was as close as perfect as possible.

[Because that's how much Varian means to him. So he put a lot of thought into all of this, even more than he usually puts into gestures towards others. ]

I'm so glad to hear that. [It's genuine. He'll lead him to the door of the cabin, where he'll unlock it and open it up. He'll set the teapot down on the nearest table, where there's also a collection of supplies that Jun set up earlier, meant for Varian]

Okay, let me get through this before the exhaustion sets in. [Because he knows it's coming] Here's a map, a spare key to the cabin, some spending money that I converted to Euros, a prepaid credit card if you need more, a list of local businesses and restaurants - including a car rental if you get tired of walking - some sunscreen, a water bottle, and a SIMs card you should put in your phone so it'll still work while we're here.

I thiiiink that should cover just about everything. My siblings helped me figure out the stuff that's good to have when you're traveling overseas.

Oh, you have absolutely managed that, I promise.

[ He hopes the promise will cement to Jun he did this perfectly- that this means the absolute world to him.

He's only more impressed when Jun shows how prepared he is. He takes it all in, looking at all of this with a low, appreciative whistle. ]

Wow, you really did put a whole lot into this isn't you? You went all all out. [He'll be a good lad and swap the SIMs card over now, just to be safe. Then he starts putting the things Jun has given him into his backpack. After a moment's thought, the draws the curtains in one of the windows of the cabin, leaving a shadowy spot. ]

And there, if I need a quick trip back, I can use that. Remind me to thank your siblings too, when I get back.

[ He stands for a moment, looking at Jun with a dopey, puppy face- absolutely full of love. ]

This means so much to me. I don't think I'm gonna get over how much you've done for a while... I don't think I want to, actually.

[Oh he does catch that promise, and he knows what it means. It makes him feel warm and happy all over again, enough that that wolf tail of his will appear and start wagging in happiness. Jun always liked doing a good job on a mission but... this was more than that. ]

Well it wouldn't be much of a gift if you got lost or something bad happened... [He's just saying!] Haha, we can thank them when we get home. My daily "I'm still alive" texts to Haru and Ana are about the only communication I want with my siblings during what should be a romantic weekend.

[He loves his siblings to bits, but nothing like siblings to kill a romantic mood. And at the puppy face... he'll smile and step close to kiss him again, this time tenderly and lingering before pulling away]

That's fine, but make sure to enjoy yourself, okay? That's what I care about the most.

[A small beat, before he says playfully]

Though, if you happen upon any tasty desserts during your walk that you'd want to bring back....

[ Varian watches Jun's wolf tail appear, his smile softening. He loves seeing his partner happy, so this brings such a warm feeling to his chest. ]

Very true! That wouldn't be a super fun way to spend my birthday weekend. [Oh, and that, a sly grin crosses his face. ] Trust me, that's very fine for me. I wanted to rested for other reasons, too. Later on tonight after we've eaten, I plan on showing you exactly how grateful I am for all of this.

[And he'd very much not want to bring their families into that. Those are a big mood killer! He's more than happy to return that kiss, making a happy noise into it. ]

Are you kidding? This is going to be amazing! I'm gonna love it. And I'll love it even more once I can show it all to you.

[ Do job, get treat rules absolutely apply and a laugh bubbles out of him. ]

Okay, you have more than earned a tasty dessert. I have a good idea what I might get you too, I'll see if they still make it. This place is old-fashioned enough that they just might. No, no I'm not telling you what it is, you'll have to be surprised~

[SIR. Jun knows damn well what Varian means like that, especially with that sly grin. He'll get the faintest of blushes and grin a bit to himself]

Ah...ha, right. I'll be sure to make sure I'm well rested for tonight then!

[But ah, Varian's already getting excited about showing him around. That's hella cute.]

Good, I look forward to having you as my tour guide. [He knows Varian loves getting to show off what he knows and he's more than happy to give it to him. Haru and Ash taught him some things, but he knows there's a lot to learn still

He chuckles again, leaning in close to give Varian one more kiss.]

I'm sure whatever it is, it'll be delicious. You know what I like. [He squeezes his hand before letting go, taking a few steps towards the bedroom, yawning as he does so.] Now if you'll excuse me, the bed is calling me. Have fun, okay? I love you.

[ Varian catches the blush, a hint of one crossing his own cheeks. ]

Good. You better~

[Varian LOVES showing off what he knows, and this is something he's always wanted to do but thought he never could. He can't show Jun around Corona, he can't take him to Old Corona to see the farm he grew up on to the island capital and the palace. But he can show him around a part of his country, and that is something he's desperately excited to do.

He returns the kiss, leaning in just for a moment to rest his forehead against Jun's. ]

I do. It'll be just perfect for you. [ He returns the hand squeeze, before raising it in farewell as Jun goes to the bedroom. ] Rest well, mein herz, I'll see you again soon. I love you, too.

[And so, Varian hefts his bag on his shoulders and takes off towards the town. It's a long walk, like Jun told him, but it's not bad at all. Every step makes him feel good, a lightness in his chest that has been missing for nearly three years. Getting into the town itself is a joy. The cobbles streets, the old buildings, it really does feel displaced by time, which means it's perfectly in-step with Varian's own experiences. He spends a few hours exploring, wandering the streets, taking in the sights, listening to people speaking his first language all around him. It's wonderful.

But what he really wants, after getting is loner time in, is to experience this all with his boyfriend. To show him just what an amazing gift he's given him. So, he drops into a local bakery, finding a cake that's familiar to him- and is delighted to still see it being made. He knows his boyfriend's sweet tooth only too well, so he'll get a whole cake rather than a couple slices. And that done, he leaves the bakery, finds himself a shadow out of prying eyes he can step into, and brings himself back to the cabin, cake box in hand.]
