[Varian knows only too well that having a purpose makes a disaster easier to navigate. Something else to focus on other than the trauma or the feeling of helplessness. He offers her a smile.]

Yeah, I'll be okay. I'm...pretty used to working alone. I can get a head start on this and hopefully figure out how to help people. I...I doubt it's just Fern that's affected.
