Boyfriend, best friend, housemate. Understands him better than anyone ever has or probably ever will- given their mutual monster pasts. They're a few months into their blossoming (hah) relationship and things are going well. They both love each other a great deal. Varian has indirectly been responsible for two of Fern's deaths, which weighs heavily on him. Varian gave up his right leg to restore Fern's memories. He truly believes that Fern can be a better person, and does his best to steer him into good decisions when he can. Fern will die back home, so Varian hopes to bring him back to Corona.
Ex-Housemate. Comes from a genuinely terrible world where he was raised by robots. Often the grumpiest asshole he knows, but Varian would still walk through fire for him. They largely interact via trolling and gentle sniping- that's how you know you someone REALLY matters. Regardless, Varian deeply appreciates him and honestly can't imagine his life without Glitch in it any more. He kind of wants to abduct him to Corona along with Fern.
Varian didn't think it was possible for another person as compassionate as Rapunzel to exist but here she is. Usagi is one of the people he trusts most in town, and though he finds her affection overbearing a lot of the time, he knows it comes from a genuine place and he kind of appreciates the extra effort. He often comes to her with his problems and she remains one of the few people with the determination to make him go the fuck to sleep. She means the ABSOLUTE universe to him and would do anything for her.
Punch aunt. She has a very... direct approach to dealing with problems (mostly they involved punching things) but Varian has found her advice to be indispensable- she really gets other people in a way that Varian doesn't. She tends to be his go-to for complicated social problems and the like. He knows she has strange powers but she's not very forthcoming on letting him study them. Rude.
Murder uncle. Maul has a very... unique way of showing he cares, but he has helped Varian out without complaint many times over and actively encourages his more dangerous experiments. Varian appreciates him a lot, and knows Maul has come from a rough, unloved past and that made him who he is today. Things are a little rocky after Maul's treatment of Glitch but while Varian is a little less trustful after Maul's broken promise to leave Glitch alone, Varian hasn't completely given up on him. Maul murdered Varian while his mind was damaged by the town- something Varian doesn't blame him for. The horrific light-saber scar sure is a thing, though.
A pretty awesome guy. Oscar's a normal kid who got tossed into the madness of team RWBY thanks to Ozpin living in his head. Thankfully, Ozpin doesn't seem to be living inside Oscar's head in Deerington, so it allows Oscar to be himself a little more. Varian has a lot of time for him, and finds familiarity in a farm boy who was dragged into world-ending-stakes by a bunch of lunatics. He feels you, Bud. Oscar recently made a sacrifice to fix Varian's death-damaged memories, resulting in the loss of his leg. Varian currently is unaware of this.
A former (???) thief. Snarky as all get-out which is frankly Varian's favourite type of person. They've helped each other out of several tight spots by now and Varian genuinely enjoys her company. One of his most trusted people in Deerington, he'll have her corner no matter what. Emerald recently had the town push her into maiming Ruby. Varian offered her compassion and understanding, reaffirming she was family to him and he'd never turn her away.
Eda's student. She's a human who is learning magic with glyphs. Despite being magic, Varian finds the process quite fascinating and wants to study the make-up of the glyphs at some point to understand how they work. She's a genuinely wonderful person who cares about others a great deal. Varian appreciates her constant checking up on him a lot. He'd murder the hell out of anyone who ever hurt her, so don't.
Probably the coolest person he'll ever meet in real life that's his own age. She has a super shitty vampire boyfriend who Varian feels needs to fuck off forever. An endless well of future information that any cool teenager needs to know. He trusts her pretty solidly. She's good people.
Provider of fantastic future music and breaking memes. Eddie is a veteran of this place and Varian appreciates his expertise in surviving Deerington. He finds his company pretty welcoming. Eddie has seen a movie of Rapunzel's life during her escape from the tower. It's weird learning you're a fictional character in someone else's world, but he is a big Rapunzel fan, so Varian can just about live with it. Eddie is someone he feels he can truly confide in, even if their relationship is often based around them being snarky assholes to each other.
Another bringing of excellent future music. They dealt with the Moss King together, and he seems like a pretty cool guy. He's from Eddie's world. Varian finds him someone well worth talking and opening up to. He's dating Eddie and is genuinely a decent human being. A WEIRD one, but decent and that's what matters.
Very nice guy, Jon's boyfriend. He comes by the Disaster House to help keep it clean at times. Though he's aware Martin is closer to Fern and Glitch than he is to himself, Varian still has a LOT of time for Martin and his gentle ways. Helped him kidnap Elias not too long back by making a magical box to lock him in. He's still waiting for the ramifications of that.
Possibly the most stressed person in all of Deerington. Shiro's taken it upon himself to take care of EVERYONE it seems. Still, he's been nothing but encouraging to Varian and his relentless praise and validation are starting to chip away at Varian's mile-thick layers of self-loathing. He genuinely cares for Varian's wellbeing and he does appreciate it, even if it's a little overbearing at times.
A very cool android and a math teacher in the High School. An encouraging figure in Varian's life- maybe if he collects enough of them he'll start to believe them that he's worth something. He's a great guy who always has good advice on offer.
THAT Orpheus. Varian's admitted he knows Orpheus' story and honestly feels a little kinship with him. After all, Rapunzel's story is apparently a well-known fairytale, and while Varian's avoided being known the way she is, it's still unsettling to live with. Orpheus is a good person, always willing to help out other Sleepers. Varian finds him a deeply worthwhile person to spend time with.
SCIENCE DAD. Interested in science and the like! Does his very best to look out for the Distaser Teens which is an awful lot for one person to attempt in all honesty. He helped get parts for Varian's leg and helped him with its asembly. Varian really does appreciate everything Adam tries to do for him.
ALCHEMY FRIEND!!! He's from a world with dragon gods(??) and a lot of magic- but he prefers alchemy which makes him exactly the sort of person Varian understands and values a lot. He's pretty nervy for a big destined hero but Varian likes and appreciates him a lot.
A VERY cool guy with lightning and fire powers! Mako is interested in learning how Deerington functions which Varian always appreciates- and he's been a solid rock of support from the get-go. Varian's very glad he met him. Thanks to an event, Mako now knows Varian's past - and did not judge him for it. He's also one of the VERY few people Varian's opened up to about Andrew.
The Doctor is very weird. Varian doesn't know his exact deal, only that he's a time traveller and he's got a LOT of knowledge under his belt. Sometimes he goes on random tangents that Varian can't quite follow- but the man has been nothing but supportive of Varian and offered him a consistent stream of validation. He's a decent guy who is slowly wearing down Varian's defences.
He sees a lot of himself in Neo- how he once was himself. She asked him to continue his research in a drug to take her out without killing her if the town ever turned her again- he's kept that promise. Regardless, she seems to be genuinely trying to make an effort to be a better person, and having distance between himself and Ruby has meant they have finally managed to find some sort of mutual ground.
Varian helped create a rudimentary power source to help her out. She's pretty stand-offish and clearly has a disdain for humanity, but Varian finds her FASCINATING.
Runs FEAR and gave him a place to lock himself away during July. It didn't work, but he doesn't hold it against her. He's less of a fan of FEAR these days because of it, but he still finds her a pretty wise counsel and she does genuinely seem to care about the people here. They both agree on points of redemption- and that some people (namely Mother Superior) are never going to accept it.
Ruby's sister. A little terrifying at times, but Varian appreciates how much she's there for Ruby. He tends to be a little awkward around her but still finds her a decent person.
Ruby's uncle. Has some sort of bad luck powers. Varian's been a little soured towards him since the incident at the caves, but he knows the man only has Ruby's best interests at heart.
Chem teacher. Pretty WEIRD, and Varian's not quite forgiven him for giving Ruby his cursed dolls for her to torture him with. Still, he's happy to teach and that means a lot. He's some hero back home where he wears a ridiculous suit and Varian doesn't quite understand it.
Really smart guy!! Ford researched unusual phenomena which means Deerington is perfect for him. He's always willing to help Varian with whatever he's working on and Varian has taught him how to make the antidote, just to be safe! A VERY cool person! They worked on the ill-fated portals together, and Varian hasn't given up on finding a way to combine their efforts and find a way to stabilize the dream.
Gloomy Girl!! Ange isn't the cheeriest person alive, but she DID save Varian's life from quicksand once, so he kind of owes her. He finds her company pretty pleasant, and he knows she's a really good friend to Fern, so bonus points for her. He's looking forward to spending more time with her.
Fern's weird stoner friend. He's pretty quiet and avoidant but Fern thinks a lot of him so Varian is trying to play nice. Determined to teach the guy how to play chess properly because he sucks at it. Dating Luna for some unfathomable reason.
A little complicated. Their first meeting was when Varian was on his July rampage and he tried to kill the guy. They've seen spoken and have a slightly uneasy truce. Varian doesn't quite understand the guy and there's still some bridges to mend here- but he's willing to put the effort in. No one said redemption would be easy.
Mako's boyfriend. Pretty high strung, but seems a decent enough guy. Wants to get to know him better.

Wolf girl and Luz's adoptive sister. She's quiet and Varian's pretty sure there's a lot there under the surface she doesn't talk about. She's facing an awful fate back home and Varian wants to give her an option besides that- another possible Corona candidate. They both died the same day from Maul's rampage. Twinsies!
Ugh, this asshole. Stan annoyed him and now they're in an endless prank war because that's a sensible thing to do in a horror town. He can't believe this troglodyte is Ford's twin. Ugh. They DID find a weird mutual ground in how much they care for Fern. They'd both do anything for him which means their sniping is largely done behind Fern's back.
A witch who's very practised in magic. Not Varian's favourite subject, but still. She's talented with potions which he appreciates. They recently had a falling out over Varian's poor dealing with Grass Demon and aren't currently on speaking terms. Not friendly ones, anyway.
The fucko that's hijacked Oscar's head back home. Between Oscar and Ruby, Varian has a pretty unpleasant picture painted of Ozpin in his head and he can't stand the guy. He can't believe he's another world version of Eugene. Ugh. Die in a hole.

WHO THE FUCK EATS CEMENT?!!!! This guy is weird and frustrating and WRONG and Varian cannot abide people being WRONG.
